How it works

What the dickens is a humanist wedding?

Have a humanist ceremony and you can get married wherever you want, to whomever you want, in whatever way you want.

Your ceremony will be unique, created from scratch for you, by a celebrant who has spent time getting to know you: me! It will be super-personal, deeply meaningful and can include anything you want. Including your dog.

It's all about YOU as a couple. It will reflect everything that is special about you. Your style, your sense of humour, your story, your quirks. Your love.

Wed anywhere that has special meaning for you, indoors or under the sky. Relaxed and informal in a back garden, barefoot in a field or black tie in a castle.

Want an impromptu dance-off or karaoke-style ing-a-long mid-ceremony? Bring. It. On.

Expect happy tears, belly laughs and surprises and your ceremony will be as meaningful and memorable for your guests as for you.

And who doesn’t want their guests remembering yours as the best wedding for years to come?

NO ONE. That’s who.

This is how we do it

  • We have a no-obligation chat: I explain everything, you ask questions, you decide yes!

  • You book me: I take a 45% booking deposit and I'm yours. You’re mine. We're doing it.

  • You do homework: everyone loves homework. You do questionnaires and other fun (!) at home stuff.

  • We have an in-depth meeting: we brainstorm ideas and come up with awesome plans.

  • I draft your ceremony script: you read it, laugh, cry (in a good way!), and we work on it until you feel it's perfect.

  • I’m on hand with advice, support, suggestions: for readings, vows, anything, right up until the day.

  • We rehearse: at the venue, so everyone can practice and you can relax and enjoy your day.

  • I conduct your kick-ass ceremony: you're married! You celebrate!

  • I send you a keepsake: a beautifully-designed, printed and bound copy of the ceremony script.

  • I plant a tree for you: with Trees for Life, who are rewilding the Scottish Highlands.

Your investment

My all-inclusive fee is £825 within 40 miles of Brighton.

If there’s extra travel or an overnight stay I’ll charge for that separately.

Humanist ceremonies aren’t (yet) legal in England or Wales, so you’ll you need to organise the signing of the legal paperwork at your local registry office. You can do this for around £47 and you’ll need two witnesses.

And then you can concentrate on the real wedding.

The humanist wedding.
